Have you felt the temperatures dropping in Southern California? We’ve already experienced some fall-like temperatures in the evenings, and a few rainy days, making us realize that summer is on the outs. The first official day of fall is September 22, 2016!
With every seasonal change, RighTime recommends getting a check-up scheduled for your HVAC unit. Seasonal maintenance can do a lot to help your budget, your home’s safety and your peace of mind.
Other than getting a fall maintenance check-up scheduled, we recommend checking off a few more tasks from your “Autumn Home Checklist”:
- Check the sealing of your windows and doors: Nothing is worse than turning your heat on only to find out your home is not staying warm. It is important to double-check the seals on your windows and doors to determine if any spray foam, caulk and/or weather strips are needed to ensure a comfortable fall and winter season.
- Clean out your gutters: At this time of year, leaves begin to change colors and fall from trees. Though beautiful, leaves can land in your gutters and cause a clog. Not only can this cause harm to the gutters themselves, but improper drainage can also cause harm to your home and landscaping. To avoid this, make sure to clean gutters often, keep up with maintenance on your roof and gutter system, and think about installing a gutter guard.
- Install a smoke and carbon monoxide detector: If your home is not already equipped with a smoke and carbon monoxide detector, make sure to install one this fall. Be sure your detectors have new batteries and are working properly. As the temperatures start to drop, you will want to start using your furnace, heater, fireplace and other gas-powered appliances. These important devices will help keep you safe by alerting you to any smoke or odorless carbon monoxide that is detected in the home.
- Update your thermostat: Save energy and money this fall by installing a programmable, WiFi-enabled thermostat. As the weather begins to cool down, program your thermostat at a comfortable temperature and enjoy your Autumn season.
